Javison Idele has taken his first step into Atalanta’s senior side, marking a significant moment for one of the club’s emerging Italian defenders.
The 19-year-old made his first-team debut in Thursday’s 3–1 UEFA Conference League victory over Pafos, replacing Thomas Kristensen in the 80th minute. For Idele, it was the latest milestone in a journey that began when he joined Atalanta’s academy at just nine years old.
Born in Bergamo to parents of Nigerian origin, Idele has developed entirely within Atalanta’s system. He progressed through the youth ranks before joining Atalanta Under-23, the club’s second team competing in Serie C, where he made his professional debut at 17. He has since accumulated 28 appearances across Serie C and the Coppa Italia Serie C, gaining experience against senior opposition while continuing his development within the club.
His progress has also extended to international football. After representing Italy at Under-19 level, including at the European Championship, Idele earned a place in the Italy Under-20 setup this season.
Atalanta manager Maurizio Sarri offered an encouraging assessment following his debut, praising the young defender and indicating that further first-team opportunities could follow.
Idele remains part of Atalanta’s Under-23 setup, but his European debut represents an important step towards the senior squad. For a player who has spent a decade progressing through the same club, the opportunity now is to establish himself at the highest level.
