Eddy Kouadio is beginning to show why Roberto Mancini brought him into Italy’s senior national-team setup.

The young Monza defender scored his first Serie A goal in a commanding 4–0 victory over Cagliari, helping the club record its biggest win in the competition. It was a goal that demonstrated an unusual attacking contribution from a centre-back. Kouadio recovered possession, drove forward into space and continued his run before combining with Dany Mota to finish beyond Elia Caprile.

The performance followed another significant milestone in his development. Kouadio received his first senior Italy call-up in September, joining Mancini’s squad after progressing through the country’s youth international system. Although he did not make his debut, the selection reflected the growing attention surrounding a defender beginning to establish himself in Serie A.

His journey has taken him through Fiorentina’s academy, where he developed before making the transition into senior football. A loan move to Monza has offered the opportunity for regular first-team responsibility, with Ivan Jurić overseeing his development in a demanding top-flight environment.

Against Cagliari, Kouadio offered another indication of the qualities that have accelerated his rise. His defensive anticipation initiated the move, while his confidence carrying the ball and composure in front of goal completed it. Those contributions are increasingly valuable for modern centre-backs, particularly those expected to participate in possession and transitions.

Italy’s interest in Kouadio is still at an early stage, and a first international appearance remains ahead of him. But his progress at Monza is giving Mancini more evidence to consider as another young Italian defender begins to make his mark in Serie A.
