Emanuele Lulli has scored his first Serie A goal for Roma, delivering a breakthrough performance at 19 as Gian Piero Gasperini’s side defeated Genoa 2–0 at the Stadio Olimpico.
Roma entered Saturday’s match needing a response to their dramatic 4–3 Champions League defeat against Real Madrid. With several established players unavailable, Gasperini made seven changes to his starting side, creating an opportunity for younger members of the squad to make their mark.
Santiago Castro opened the scoring early in the second half before Lulli doubled Roma’s advantage in the 68th minute. Matías Soulé created the opportunity with a driving run into the penalty area, finding the young Italian in front of goal for a close-range finish. The goal survived a VAR check for offside and secured an important victory for the Giallorossi.
Lulli’s contribution was recognised beyond the scoresheet. Sky Sport Italia named him its man of the match, highlighting a performance that demonstrated his ability to contribute at senior level when Roma needed greater depth.
For Gasperini, the result offered encouragement after a difficult European defeat and further evidence that his younger players can contribute during a demanding season. For Lulli, it was the first tangible reward on the Serie A stage, turning an opportunity in the starting lineup into a performance that will strengthen his case for further minutes.
